Frequently Asked Questions
Jupiter
Sun Shade:
| Q. How does the Jupiter shade attach
to the car? |
A. Although the Jupiter shade sits up against
the windshield post of the car, the shade actually adheres
to windshield at the top and bottom corners of the glass.
This mounting procedure uses 4 small brackets that utilize
3M double-sided tape. In this way the installation never
interferes with the production integrity of the vehicle.
TOP
| Q. What keeps the
shade from falling down when it is opened? |
A. The Jupiter's unique mounting process provides the
ultimate support system. One option (recommended) utilizes
a thin nylon cord (transparent fishing line) that acts
much like a curtain rod. This allows the shade to slide
from the side to the center and back again with great
ease while supporting the shade when open. A second
option is to remove the nylon cord and simply use the
vehicle's sun visors to support the shade. Both options
support the shade very well; however, the nylon cord
assists in guiding the shade back into its disengaged
position.
TOP
| Q. What happens
if I need to remove the shade to replace my
windshield? |
A. Removal of the shade will weaken the adhesive
properties of the double-sided adhesive tape. However,
replacement tape is available from Solar e-clips for
a nominal charge of $3.00.
TOP
| Q. How strong and durable is the Jupiter shade? |
A. Although the material used in the Jupiter
shade is extremely thin and light weight and can be
easily cut with a pair of scissors, it is almost impossible
to tear, therefore making it extremely durable. The
material used in the Jupiter was three years in its
development in order to provide a reflective material
that was strong and yet thin enough to compress into
a 1/4" space when not in use.
TOP
| Q. How do I order the right size
to fit my particular car? |
A. The Jupiter shade is 28" high and
is designed to fit essentially all vehicles. However,
some windshields require a shorter shade in order to
get a customized fit. This is easily accomplished by
a simple trimming procedure of the Jupiter shade with
a pair of scissors. Detailed instructions are provided
with the installation instructions.
TOP
| Q. My rear view mirror is attached to the windshield
. Will this interfere with the operation of the
Jupiter shade? |
A. No. The Jupiter shade will simply open
up against each side of the rear view mirror post, leaving
a very small triangle of glass not covered by the shade.
If the nylon support cord is utilized as part of the
installation, the center support guide is placed above,
below, or on either side of the mirror post. Some vehicles
have a very thick support for the rear view mirror (1-1/2"
thick) which requires two center support guides - one
on either side of the rear view mirror post. That extra
support guide is available from Solar e-clips without
charge.

The
Sundial Sunshade
| Q. How is the Sundial shade installed? |
A. The Sundial uses two suction cups that
attach to the glass at the desired width up to a maximum
of 49".
TOP
| Q. Can the suction cups be left in place and
the shade taken down for driving? |
A. Yes, it is possible to leave the suction
cups in place when removing the shade; however, these
suction cups are black in color and 1-5/8" in diameter,
and could interfere with full vision, depending on the
size of your windshield.

The
SunFade Sun Shade
| Q. Can the window to which the SunFade is attached
be lowered? |
A. Yes. Since the SunFade is made of a soft
material that hangs like a curtain, the window can be
lowered down to the point where the mounting suction
cups are attached.
TOP
| Q. When the SunFade is pulled to the side,
how much space does it take up? |
A. Folded to one side, the shade takes up
about 5" of space. However, a tie-back or strip
of Velcro can gather that 5" into a very small
fold if desired.

The
Europa Mark I Sun Shade
| Q. Will this shade fit on the back shelf if
I have speakers and a brake light there? |
A. The Mark I needs a flat 2" space
for installation. This is normally on the back shelf,
but it can also be at the point where the rear seat
meets the back shelf. It can also be mounted over top
of the speakers or brake light mound although this will
cut down on the available window space.
TOP
| Q. What supports the top of the shade when
opened? |
A. The Mark I uses 2 small plastic "cradle"hooks
that attach to the top corners of the window glass using
3M double sided tape. Each end of the top rod of the
shade then sits in its respective "cradle"
hook.
TOP
| Q. Can the Mark I be installed on the rear
window of a hatchback? |
A. Yes. This requires the us of a long strip
of velcro to support the shades housing on the ledge
of the window. Please click
on this link to see an example.

The
Europa Mark V Sun Shade
| Q. Is this a "Do-It-Yourself"
product? |
A. Installation of the shade itself is very
easy and can be accomplished by almost anyone including
the installation of the battery operated control if
it is located in the proximity of the shade itself.
However, if you wish to operate the control from the
front seat, then one has to be able to conceal the wiring
from the shade to the dashboard area and this requires
some additional handyman skills. If you want to use
the vehicle's electrical system for power, we recommend
that you engage the services of an auto mechanic.
